Stream: Katy Perry’s New Album ‘Smile’

Published: Thursday 27th Aug 2020 by Rashad

Three years have separated fans of Katy Perry from her last studio album, ‘Witness.’

A critically panned affair, the 2017-born effort was not only plagued with thumbs down from critics for seeing the GRAMMY nominee try her hand at ‘purposeful Pop’ but also from fans who were disappointed the era’s accompanying aesthetic veered too far left from the visuals that escorted its predecessors ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Prism.’

Going on to be her only major label LP to lack an RIAA certification, the stakes were high for its follow-up (later christened ‘Smile’).  Despite hoisting a number of its housed cuts for public consumption (see:  its title track, ‘Never Really Over,’ ‘Daisies,’ ‘Harleys in Hawaii’ and deluxe edition cuts ‘Small Talk’ and ‘Never Worn White’), ‘Smile’ – released August 28 – comes as her first major label project to go to chart battle without a Hot 100 top 10 single preceding it.

Will that play against it?  Listen inside and give us your two cents:

While not exactly seeing its content dominate the competition on the Hot 100, ‘Smile’ (the album) is projected to top the Billboard 200 based on pre-orders alone (as we reported here).

Once streaming figures are factored in, the set – barring any surprises – is expected to be Perry’s fourth consecutive chart-topper on the album hitlist.

An absolute mess. The critics were kind when they said it was boring. And the fact that she’s using her having the baby for promo is so tacky. One big fat L. Even if it hits #1, it won’t be certified just like witness. 2/10

Of course WAP aka Only Facts would be the first to comment. It proberly already had that comment typed and ready to paste as soon as the post came out. Only Facts is obessed with Katy and Nicki

A very good decision not to scrap NRO and HinH because those two singles were the best tracks out of the whole album. This an improvement from Witness and it brings back the happy and fun side from Teenage Dream and Prism era.

I like the album very positive and upbeat! I like it’s Katy but just more grown and mature pop.

This album is not bad for what it is, and I’m not even a real Katy fan.
